How To Make a Bolo Tie - The Bolo Supply Co. Way

This is a quick and easy guide to making your own bolo tie using the Bolo Supply Co. kit. We recommend watching this short 1.5 minute video first. Detailed instructions are provided below. Reach out via our messenger if you have any questions.

Materials

  • 1 x Bolo Supply Co. Kit - Includes tips, cord, and slides for 2 bolos.
  • 2 x Centerpieces (could be a stone, coin... whatever! As long as it has 1 flat side)
  • Adhesive We recommend clear quick-set epoxy, but you can use other super glue also, just make sure its compatible with the material for your centerpiece.
  • Toothpicks (or some other disposable stick)
  • Rubber gloves (optional but recommended)
  • Disposable plate (for the epoxy or adhesive)

Total Time required: About 1 hour (15 minutes active, 45 minutes inactive)

Step 1 - Attach the slide to the centerpiece

Place your centerpiece(s) facedown, and determine where you want to attach your slide(s). If you're using epoxy, mix up a small amount in a well ventilated area, and put on your rubber gloves. You'll want something disposable (like a toothpick) to apply the adhesive to the slide(s). Apply a thin layer of epoxy to the slide(s), leaving a small margin around the edges so the epoxy doesn't squish out the sides when you attach it. Attach the slide(s) to the centerpiece, and make sure it's oriented as you would like it to be. Wait for as long as your epoxy instructions recommend before proceeding to step 2, it's usually no longer than an hour.

Step 2 - String your cord

After your slide is firmly attached to your centerpiece, simply string each end of the 36" bolo cord through each of the holes of the slide. This will make a loop on the top of the bolo slide, that will go around your neck, and two dangly cords on the bottom.

Step 3 - Glue your tips to the cord

Put on your rubber gloves and mix up some more epoxy in a well ventilated area. Using a toothpick, dip the toothpick into the epoxy, getting a very small dab. Carefully place the small dab of epoxy into one of the tips, pushing the toothpick down into the tip. Then place the cord end into the tip, doing a lil rotation of the tip to ensure the epoxy coats the sides of the cord. Repeat this process with the other cord ends and tips. Allow the tips to dry for as long as the adhesive packaging recommends. If you are using another adhesive that has a drop bottle, you can alternatively carefully drop a couple of drops of adhesive into the tips. Just make sure you wipe off any excess glue from the cords and tips.

Step 4 - Rock your bolo

Congratulations, you did it! Enjoy all the compliments and comments you will get when you wear your new bolo.
